All across the US, certain books are being banned. The word banned means officially or legally prohibited. Banned books are books that are banned from all places like libraries, book stores, and schools. Books are banned when parents, government officials, and organizations think that the book is unacceptable for a certain age group.

The reason why books are banned is because of what is happening in society, meaning what's happening in the lives of the people trying to ban the book. For example, reading what is happening in their life may affect them. Also, they are banned because the material was considered to be "sexually explicit", like characters having sex.  They are also banned because they contained "offensive language", like cursing. It also might be that it's unsuited to an age group, meaning it shouldn't be read by younger kids. In order for the book to get banned, people read the book and find that the book is unsuitable. They take the book to the library, school, and bookstore and demand that the book is banned. The people that want the book banned have to explain why they want the book banned and they might involve other people to convince them to ban that book.
